i can't say that this book was what i expected...at all! i put it back up for exchange at www.paperbackswap.com/rootwomin where i got it from and so far no one has ordered it! so if anyone would like to read it, go to that link, sign up and order it and it's yours! i'd read another book about marie laveau that i'd mistakenly thought was this one! i love the subject matter but was very disappointed about how it was presented.

I did enjoy reading this book. I love the historical fiction element, but I'm not so sure if she should have linked the main character to the mystique of Marie Laveau. I think if she could have just linked the character of Marie to voodoo in another way, it would have been better. It took me a second to read this book, but it was worth the read.
