  • Laura Ingalls: The middle Ingalls child and main character of the book. Laura is an imaginative and lively little girl who sometimes gets into trouble for her actions.
  • Mary Ingalls: Laura's older sister. Mary is a "good" girl who always seems to do the right thing at the right time. Laura often despairs of being as "good" as Mary.
  • Caroline Ingalls (Ma): Caroline is the mother of Laura, Mary, baby Carrie and wife of Pa. Ma Ingalls is a homemaker and works very hard to take care of her family.
