This book is sad and happy. Mary goes off to collage and Nellie Olson comes back. Almanzo and Laura find each other and a lot more. I really loved this book because a lot happens but it is also really nice and every thing is perfect. I hope you like this book to.

Laura and Mary are very close because they are close in age. Mary is blind. She has been old enough to go to college for two years but her parents have not had the money to put her through college. Laura decides to get a job in town where she sews all day. The money that she earns is put towards Mary's college. At the end of summer, Pa decides he has enough money to put Mary through a seven year college. Laura and her siblings miss Mary greatly but continue succedig in their schoolwork and keep up in their chores. Laura's dream is to be a school teacher so she studies hard all the time. Throughout the book Laura looses interest in studying and starts to party more. Towards the end of the book, Mary motivates her to study more. After study and preforming in her church she is asked to become a teacher. She is a year to young but they still allow her to teach. The school is twelve miles south of the town they live in, so it would not be possible to travel back and forth everyday. Laura decides to move to the town she is teaching in for the the two months she is teaching. The forty dollars she makes over the two months will be put towards Mary's college. I think Laura is very giving and puts others first. I really liked this book.

I loved this book because it shared a girls adventures when she moved across the states in a wagon.Just when she settles in the family makes changes for life.Laura grows up and faces everyday challenges like working in town, getting hoops on dresses but her biggest fear is her teacher exam. Can she get a job when the family needs it most for Mary. The font was small because it was an olden day book but that didn't me from finishing it in 5 days.

Laura Ingalls is growing up, and is now living in a town. The small settlement that was once so bare is now growing steadily into a town. This book would be a perfect tie-in to the discussion of the "boom towns" in the 1800s that resulted from the migrations out west.
