This was one of the most fun and best written and original novels I have ever read. From page one it kept me gripped and I did little else but read last weekend. The concepts are intriguing and the mild sci-fi connection should not drive away people who hate sci-fi. I am recommending this book to...

I was hoping for a really good, engrossing summer read, and stumbled upon this (that'll teach me to troll the bargain bin). It's only OK -- it takes itself too seriously, and is obviously indebted to the Matrix and Richard Dawkins' "The Selfish Meme."

The book tries too hard to be too...

Well, this was certainly an entertaining jaunt into the muddy waters of what an author can do with a story, with a book and with a text.
I enjoyed the thriller/horror aspects of the story, which I felt were just enough to evoke the genre without any of the voyeuristic attitudes that horror sometimes seems to possess. And I thought the shark was a brilliant move.
The characters seemed flat sometimes, though whether that was a deliberate homage to the genre remains impossible to tell, since so much in this book is a deliberate homage.
And the ending, which I know has its detractors, I found to be pith perfect.

Strange book in the science fiction genre. Very suspenseful, worth reading if you are looking to explore a different world. I liked the themes about questioning reality and how the mind works to process the world that you see.

A hidden gem. One of those books which stays with you and you can't stop thinking about. Can't believe it's not a classic

Really deep and metaphorical. Took me some time, but it was worth it. Loved it!

Massively inventive and wondrous, Hall's mind-bending first novel is fresh, unique, and eruditely sincere. Moments of Lewis Carroll-esque lunacy leap off of the pages (which, sadly, run out far too quickly).

This is a mind blowing book that can never really be fully understood, and reading it again and again is necessary. So many hidden messages lie beneath the story and it is truly remarkable sample of writing.

Whoah. Wat. Although it takes itself too seriously as points, I really enjoyed it. A nice diversion from a lot of the simple books I've been reading. For people who enjoyed House of Leaves, you may wanna check this book out. I feel the ending could have been slightly better, but I'm happy.

Put together any number of genres (and un-genres) including detective, romance, sci-fi and adventure, create a conceptual/philosophical framework for it all to operate within, scatter allusions liberally throughout and you have this unlikely but utterly compelling novel. Playful, thought provoking, moving and so very enjoyable. Can't recommend this too highly.

Definitely exhilarating. The first half was a little iffy, wondering if it was going to go anywhere, but it's worth the effort to finish. It's a touching ending, and the book went in a direction I wasn't expecting. Very interesting, for sure.
