• Added the description of Eric Sanderson: The main character of the story. After waking up in a house he doesn't recognize, he receives pre-written letters in the mail from his old self, which he refers to as the First Eric Sanderson. Initially pushing these letters off to the side, it isn't until the events of his previous life catch up him that he embarks on the journey to uncover the truth.

• Added the description of Scout: A young woman involved with the Un-Space Exploration committee. She rescues Eric from his second encounter with the Ludovician and knows a lot about un-space and conceptual fish. Any many ways she resembles Clio Aames, Eric's former love.

• Added the description of Mycroft Ward: One of the antagonists of the story. The original Mycroft Ward existed in the mid nineteenth century. His purpose in life was immortality. When he died, it was assumed he had failed. In truth, he had succeeded. He had found a new body, a young man, and hypnotically told him every detail of his own life. When Mycroft was done, the man thought, acted, and had the same memories as Mycroft, and was essentially a new Mycroft Ward. The original plan was for this man to find a worthy next Mycroft, but at some point, the plan went wrong. The self-preservation instinct within him became too strong and he began creating serial Mycroft Wards. At the time of the story, Mycroft Ward is an immense internet database that controls hundreds of Mycrofts world wide.

For the first few months of the book, Eric Sanderson and Dr. Randle meet regularly.

• The Raw Shark Texts , called “clever, playful . . .  sharp and clear” by the Los Angeles Times and “a horror-dystopic-philosophical mash-up” by the New York Times Magazine , is a novel unlike any other. Eric Sanderson wakes up in a house one day with no idea who or where he is. Instructed by a mysterious note to visit a Dr. Randle, Eric learns that the agony of losing the love of his life in a scuba-diving accident three years before has destroyed his memory. But there may be more to the story, or it may be a different story altogether. As Eric begins to examine letters and papers left in the house by “the first Eric Sanderson,” a staggeringly different explanation for what is happening to Eric emerges, and he and the reader embark on a quest to recover the truth and escape the remorseless predatory forces that threatens to devour him. The Raw Shark Texts is a kaleidoscopic novel about the magnitude of love and the devastating effect of losing that love.
