These were the first set of chapter books that I ever read! I still remember that the books we had in the library were so old that it made me feel like i was back in the time when the books were written. I love these books! Especially being from a small town in the middle of nowhere and still living on the lad that my grandparents put their homestead on made it really hit home.

The Big Woods have gotten too crowded for Pa's taste, so the Wilder family packs up all their belongings in a covered wagon and heads west for the Kansas territory on authority that the government will be opening up the Indian lands for territory. Once their, they have to brave wolves, Indians, prarie fire, and other dangers, but they are happy on the plains in the simple house that Pa has built.

I actually didn't love this one quite as much as Little House in the Big Woods. I think that is more because instead of describing how to gather sap, churn butter, and the like, it was filled with descrpitions of how to build a house, furniture, and many long descriptions of how beautiful the prarie was. That doesn't mean I didn't like the book. I did; just not quite as much as the first. It's been a long time since I read these books as a child, and I will definitely be continuing on with the rest of the series.

I remember when my dad read these books to my sister and I when we were little. I absolutely love these books and the story behind them. Living in the Midwest I think it is especially fun to read these books. Great adventures had by all.

I read this book in the midddle of third grade. Some nights I would stay up hours after my bedtime to read 'just a couple more pages' because I loved it so much. I loved that the book was based on a true story and it just got me even more intersested. This book was great.

    Upper Elementary
Loved loved this book when I was younger. The family moves west to farm the land and faces many difficulties. Along with difficulties come times of happiness.
