Emma is one of my most beloved literary figures.
    She's such an airhead!
But Mr. Knightley is the constant pursuer of this silly figure, and though she is no match in wit or charm as the ever-popular Elizabeth Bennett, her flaws are much more endearing and is the fault of cute naivete. :)
Mr. Knightley is not as severe as Mr. Darcy, but I love his constancy. :) Not as hiddenly romantic, especially when played by Collin Firth, but a very lovable character to say the least. :)

I was given the second volume of Emma from this collection for *free* from an aunt and uncle of mine. Needless to say, it stays on a top shelf in my library, only taken down to admire, and verrrrrrrrrry gently leaf through, before I put it back and pull out one of the other three, more recently published, copies I own to actually read. The book itself is quite small, slightly larger than the size of my hand. The pages are gold-edged on the top, rough and uneven on the side and bottom, very thick and slightly yellow with aging. The illustrations are full color, delicate, and full of detail, each protected with a small, sewn-in piece of rice paper. The publishing information page is covered in floral decorations, uses blue ink in some places, and I had to go google MDCCCXCVIII in order to actually figure out what year it was published in (1898, fyi). And best of all, on the first page it defines the word 'deedily' and references where it got the definition: "Halliwell's Dictionary of Archaic and Provincial Words. 2nd ed. 1852." Emma was published for the first time in 1815, and already she needed a little translation!

emma is the portrait of happiness, she is a naive girl of her times, when rich people like her didnt do anything but chatting and eating. but it's fun, she is a silly but funny character.
