“This is a very good book, but you have to be up to date for the situations happening in the book. But i recomend if you are a person that likes debates about the unfairness of the govertment to read this book.”

It would be interesting to discuss it with others to see who they thought the most sympathetic character was and why. Depending on your personality, you may identify with someone other than I did. Your view may also depend on your family relationships and your relationship with your in-laws. There were scenes where I sympathized with each character for a short time. But I did feel sorriest for one in particular. See if you can guess which one!”

The build up of Salome was such a disappointment as she turned out to be just a plain old bitch in the end. And the father falling for Salome's runaway mother was odd and unfitting for the story - especially the ending following the unexpected and sudden death of his wife.

“I actually only got to about page 75 and couldn't bring myself to finish the book. It just wasn't holding my attention and I kept it for about 3 weeks before finally deciding to return it to the library unfinished. I kept thinking there was going to be some mystery unfolding but if it was there, it didn't happen in the first part of the book.”

This novel explores this theme in a compelling way, showing how the balance of the family can tip in unanticipated directions. "Trespass" is a good read, and Valarie Martin is a solid writer.”

I don't think I enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed having read it. I feel like I learned something about Yugoslavia that I did not know before. It also had interesting commentary on families and on the Iraq war. This is a book I wish I had read in a book group, because I feel like there is a lot to discuss about it and I don't really know where to begin. ”

It's the story of an only child who falls in love with an edgy, opinionated Croatian expatriate while he is at university. The plot revolves around the reactions of his professional parents, an artist and professor, with the addition of this "unsuitable" young woman to their family.”

It's a good book to discuss, because it covers many topics - human brutality, parent-child relationships, marriage, security, domesticity. I thought the ending rang a little false.”
