Walter Dean Myers creates the story of a sixteen year old, Steve Harmon, from the point of view of Steve. Steve writes in his notebook everyday. He tells what happens from the courthouse to the prison cell. Steve is waiting for his case to be determined whether he is guilty or not. He goes on an emotional rollercoaster, trying to get the jury to declare him not guilty. He also feels that his father doesn't love him anymore. As the trial goes by, Steve's arrest becomes more clear. His attorney tells Steve that his chances of winning the trial are slim. In the courthouse, Steve would write down everything that happens. Was Steve really telling the truth this whole time? His lawyer tells him to demonstrate that he is not guilty. She signals to him whether or not the information is benefitial to him or not.
