ttyl (Talk to You Later)

by Lauren Myracle

Audacious author Lauren Myracle accomplishes something of a literary miracle in her second young-adult novel, ttyl (Internet instant messaging shorthand for "talk to you later"), as she crafts an epistolary novel entirely out of IM transcripts between three high-school girls.

This book rocks! My favorite character is Zoe because she is the little miss perfect in front of her parents, but when she is with her friends, she lets loose a little bit.

The IM'ing gets extremely annoying after a while (it shows the bad writing skills that teenagers use these days because of "internet talk"), and the characters in this book also made really stupid choices that make them unlikable. They are just the kind of people I try to avoid. I don't think that I'll be reading the others in this series any time soon. Don't get me wrong, it was quite a creative book, but it just didn't appeal to me.

This book has been banned off of several shelves. Lauren Myracle has received numerous hate mail.
    What's your take on that?
