Ben Wolf a Sr. in high school discovers he has one year to live when he went to the doctor for his one year Cross Country chech up. He decides that he isnt going to tell anyone that he is dieing, and he isnt going to get treatment for it. So, his doctor insists that he gets a theripist. After all this he decided he wasnt going out for cross country, was going to do football, with his brother, the star quarterback of the school. That might of been the best desion of his short life because he got a joined scholorship to attend Biose State University with his brother, as long as they played football. In the end it gets to much for him to hold in this secret and tell no one so he decided to start to tell his friends and family that he was dieing. He lost the love of his life after telling everyone he was dieing because, she thought it was to much to handle. Ben learned a lot about him self in his last year of life, like that he loved to help people, that him and Dallas were a perfect match, and that he was very good at football.

  • Ben Wolf: Eighteen-year-old high school senior, who has one year to live. He falls in love with Dallas Suzuki. Ben also decides not to tell anyone about his illness until the end when he can't stand it anymore. He decides to play football with his brother for He is the main character. He is only 123 lbs and used to run cross-country before decideding to go out for football after finding out about his illness.
  • Dallas Suzuki: Dallas is the girl Ben falls in love with. She is very competitive at all sports, mainly volleyball, which is her best sport. She was raped by her uncle when she was 13, and had Joe Henry who she says is her brother because she's scared of people knowing the truth. In the end she later tells people the truth. She is a main character.
  • Cody Wolf: Ben's brother, who is inseparable from Ben. Who loves football and got a scholarship with Ben to Boise State. He would constantly consult with Ben on how to beat another team's defense.He is a main character.
  • Rudy Mccoy: Rudy McCoy was the town alcoholic, who holds a big secret. The secret that he finally told to the main character Ben after ten years of hiding it was, that he was a child molester. He became a Catholic priest so he could stop thinking of little boys in that way, but it didn't work. He molested a boy, who then later killed himself. Rudy got so tired of holding this secret, because no one knew he molested that kid, so he later killed himself as well. He is one of the main characters.
  • Mr. Lambeer: Ben's teacher, who hates him because he always interrupts his teaching to talk about Malcolm X. He is not a main character.
  • Joe Henry: Joe Henry is the son of Dallas. He was born after Dallas was raped by her Uncle when she was 13. He is not a main Character.
  • Marla: Marla is Ben's therapist, who left after she felt it was too much taking on the case where a kid was dying and was fine with it. She plays a small role in this book.
  • Mr. Cowans: Mr. Cowans was the father of Sooner. He abused Sooner, and broke his collor bone. Mr. Cowans became depressed after his son died in a car accident. He plays a small role in this book.
  • Sylvia Longley: An annoying girl in Ben's class, who hated Ben because he tried to name a street after Malcolm X. She is not a main character.

  • Mr. Phelps: I do not remember who this is
  • Doc Wagner: Doc Wagner was Ben's doctor. He was the one who found Ben's blood disease, and promised to tell no one about it. He is not a main character.
