In this not quite a sequel but more of a continuation to "Every Reasonable Doubt," author Pamela Samuels-Young returns with lawyer Vernetta Henderson.
After a recent large success in the courtroom, Vernetta is on the fast track to a coveted partnership with O'Reilly and Finney, the first for an African American attorney. The only possible impediment is her current case. At first, the case appeared to be a slam dunk, but Vernetta quickly learns things are not as they seem and that someone will stop at nothing to get their way, up to and including murder.
Samuels-Young again engages readers with the happenings of her heroine. IN FIRM PURSUIT convincingly establishes Vernetta as hardworking and determined yet sensitive and relatable. Samuels-Young delivers a suspense laden, well-paced story of murder, deceit and deadly ambitions. From its tense opening to the very last page, IN FIRM PURSUIT will entertain readers. Highly enjoyable. I recommend to anyone looking for a good read.

Top-notch attorney Vernetta Henderson is back. Her career appears to be on a definite rise, thanks to her recent winnings, inching her closer to that coveted prize of partnership at the prestigious O’Reilly & Finney. When what appears to be an easy sexual harassment case lands on her desk, Vernetta sticks to her guns, refusing to settle for pennies on the dollar. When coincidences start piling up, Vernetta gets the eerie feeling that something isn’t what it seems. With things in the case going so wrong, Vernetta finds herself in jeopardy of losing it all.
Greed, deceit, conflicts of interest, far-reaching conspiracies and violence may damage more than just the case.
IN FIRM PURSUIT by Pamela Samuels Young is one of the best books written. It’s suspenseful, fast-paced and detailed. I am looking forward to reading the next book, MURDER ON THE DOWN LOW.

“From beginning to end you will find yoursel engrossed in the twists and turns of this story. A tribute to the authors ability to create a sequeal as entertaining as the first in the series. Linda!”

Pamela Samuels-Young's second novel, In Firm Pursuit, is a legal mystery that will keep readers glued to every page. Vernetta Henderson is a rising star in her law firm. She aspires to be the firm's first African American partner and winning the Micronics case will all but guarantee her the history-making position. Vernetta is confident that the case is a slam-dunk and opts for a big win at trial instead of taking the chance to settle out-of-court for a meager amount. Her confidence soon begins to wane when she uncovers evidence that can cripple her defense.
To add to the stress Vernetta faces on-the-job, her husband, Jefferson, is unable to offer much comfort as he oversees a major project out-of-town. Being away from his wife is taking a toll on Jefferson and he soon finds himself in a compromising position that threatens his marriage and business. Thankfully, Vernetta's sassy friend, Special Moore, is able to keep her sane as her world turns upside-down. When Special gets caught in the crossfire, Vernetta realizes she must get to the truth before someone she loves gets hurt.
Samuels-Young weaves an intricate tale of murder, white-collar crime and sexual misconduct. The characters are diverse and dynamic and amusingly over-the-top at times. In Firm Pursuit is an excellent choice for fans of mystery, suspense or crime novels.
