At first, I thought it was odd that he planned to take us a mere ~20 years into the past when creating this world. But as I continued into the story, I was entranced by the intricate world that had been created by...” see full review » see other reviews » |

Somehow, though, I just couldn't get into it--maybe I'm just not "literate" enough to follow all the connections... and when about 6 F-bombs hit within 2 pages I decided that was enough.” see full review » see other reviews » |
“One of my favorites. Isn't this every booklovers dream? Well, you wouldn't want to jump into Beowoulf, I guess.”

Jasper Fforde's imagination is out of this world, and this marks the start of my being a fan. Thursday Next is truly heroine material. I just wish the Jane Eyre part started sooner, and not in chapter 29 of the 35-chapter book. I was sooo looking forward to reading about Jane Eyre that I couldn't get to that part fast enough. But still, Fforde did not disappoint. He made Rochester come alive, literally! The twists and turns made it a truly exciting book to read. :)
I'm looking forward to reading the rest of Fforde's books. Jasper Fforde fan!!!

“Laugh-out-loud funny! Even if you haven't read all of the classics mentions.
I had to call a friend to ask how Jane Eyre REALLY ended after reading this. ”
“I read this one second, though it was the first in the series, and found it just as delightfully irreverent and wonderful as Lost in a Good Book.”

I really enjoyed the universe this book is written in. In fact, I believe it is the way the world should be. We should all know, love, embrace, and exist upon literature. My favorite scene in the book was when Thursday goes to a performance of Richard III in which the audience members are the actors and there is audience participation throughout the play. It was amazing to me. I want to live in this world!
I loved the writing. I loved all the mentions of famous works of literature. I loved all the allusions. It is a great idea for a series.
My only complaint is how Thursday's romantic life ended in the book. I wasn't happy about that. But the plot was great, though, the Eyre part of the book was a long time in coming, believe me.
Overall, it was an enjoyable book. :)”
“3.5, really. Fantasy-good, humor-good, storyline-entertaining, language-abysmal. I won't read another in the Tuesday Next series. Right in the middle of the 5th of 8 cd's, wham! go the F-bombs. What was that? I listened to the cd's, but I wouldn't recommend it so you won't be assaulted by the language.”
