In this treatise on an important phenomenon of positive psychology, Czikszentmihalyi describes Flow as an internal condition of well-being, created inside our consciousness, regardless of the nature of external circumstances precipitating this state of mind.

It is a state of how we interpret what is happening to us and how some of us, regardless of how, mundane, monotonous, negative or traumatic an experience may be viewed by an observer, can prescribe positive value to these experiences.

This work is eloquently written and appears to be backed by solid scientific research. The stories of individuals attaining near-constant flow states can certainly be identified by most readers, but most importantly the author articulates how anyone may be able to achieve personal happiness within the psyche.

Those looking for a self-help book will be disappointed as the text lacks the customary methodological lists and how-tos prevalent within the genre. However if the reader delves a bit deeper into the work, he or she would find a very persuasive argument that the capability to achieve optimal experience already lies within ourselves.

Great psychology read. I apply these principles in daily life. Also very helpful for counseling and other forms of therapy.

FLOW is a wonderful book. It's a book I recommend for critical thinkers. Personally, I could not put it down! In fact, the way things are in the USA these days -- I should probably read it again.

Csikszentmihalyi, builds on the traditons of Aristotles ethics combined w/ the latest learning in behavioral science to tell us why lose track of time doing the things we love. This is a great book and a must have on my "Desert Island" list

An excellent "self help" book (in the best sense of the phrase). Not a proscribed recipe for success, but a well thought out philosophy for creating a meaningful life.
