  • Kesrith: An inhospitable world with dangerous wildlife and violent and unpredictable weather. The world is covered in sand, rock, and dust. The air is so dry that almost any degree of exertion can cause hemorrhaging in the lungs. This world was used as a mining base for Regul and a homeworld for Mri until it was ceded to Humans as part of a peace treaty.

  • Mri: Literally 'The People', the mri are a tall, slender species with golden-toned eyes, skin, and coarse shoulder-length manes and narrow, long hands and feet. Their eyes have a nictitating membrane. Their ears have a tuft of fur at the tips. Their senses are extremely keen, even into old age.
  • Regul: A mainly non-violent race of merchants with eidetic memory and a reputation of being unable to lie. They become largely immobile and machine-reliant as adults and feel no compunction for killing their young. They formerly used mri mercenaries for warfare.
  • Sen: The mri scholar caste.
  • Kel: The mri warrior caste.
  • Kath: The mri caste of childbearers and children.
  • She'pan: The female member of Sen caste that leads a mri House.
  • eshai'i: Lack-honor
  • Dus: One of the large, lumbering, dangerous desert creatures of Kesrith that tend to bond to members of Kel caste. They have a poisoned dewclaw and downy fur on wrinkled flesh.
  • tsi'daith: Un-son
  • tsi'mri: Not-people
  • seta'al: The triple blue-stained cheek scars that denote a fully-fledged member of the Kel caste.
  • mez: A mri veil
  • zaidhe: A mri tasseled headcloth with a dark transparent visor
  • yin'ein: A mri weapon
  • zahen'ein: A mri weapon
  • j'tai: Medallion honors won in service
  • ika'al: Ritual suicide
  • Shon'ai: The mri passing game, also called The Game of the People, where as'ei (or, in Kath caste, stones) are thrown to the other players in the circle, testing reflexes and attention.
  • As'ei: A type of dagger.
  • dag: A regul word meaning favor, please attention. In a higher timber, it means honorable. In a shrill tone, blood.
  • miuk: Also called the Madness, this is the result of a dus whose secretions are out of balance.
  • miuk'ko: A dus that has miuk.
  • komal: Describe this term.
  • kel'anth: The head of Kel caste in a House.

  • kel'en: A male Kel.
  • kel'e'en: A female Kel.
  • kel'ein: A plural of Kel.
  • sen'anth: The head of Sen caste in a House.
