Series like Dawn after this were a little disappointing because I knew what to expect....incest. Gets a little boring, but definitely Heaven is a good series.” see full review » see other reviews » |
“Good book, very sad but actually makes you think about how other people live and what they have to go through”

I think Fanny is really stupid and mean, I want to just tell her off. I like the little romance between Logan and Heaven. I was really disgusted with Heaven and her "step dad" that Cal has a lot of nerve, he is gross. Kitty was very mean, I thought she should just go away, and she did in the end.”

Fanny's promescuity could not have been made more evident. Kitty was a complex character, though simple to understand in actions. For example, it was easy to understand why she killed the hamster, but there must have been more to the character to explain why she felt she must do so.
The Good: This is one of my favorites of Andrew's books. Though not as many twists as my beloved Dollanganger series- so far- there are enough unexpected turns to keep the reader interested. The formula of the young girl leaving her small town family and under-privileged youth for a more affulent family seems to be working.
Description
Of all the folks in the mountain shacks, the Casteels were the lowest -- the scum of the hills. Heaven Leigh Casteel was the prettiest, smartest girl in the backwoods, despite her ragged clothes and dirty face...despite a father meaner than ten vipers...despite her weary stepmother, who worked her like a mule. For her brother Tom and the little ones, Heaven clung to her pride and her hopes. Someday they'd get away and show the world that they were decent, fine and talented -- worthy of love and respect. Then Heaven's stepmother ran off, and her wicked, greedy father had a scheme -- a vicious scheme that threatened to destroy the precious dream of Heaven and the children forever!

Her father is a brute and with her step mother not being there she is left alone to help feed her starving family! This book is amazing can not put it down have read it more than 20 times!”

I remember being at horse camp at age 12 and this girl Lisa-- one of the cool, mature "older girls"--was reading it and passing it around so we could all read the "naughty" parts. I had to get my own copy and read it at least twice in the privacy of my bedroom. Such a bad girl!”
