“I like Emily Dickinson’s poetry, but her preoccupation with death and immortality make me feel oddly ill at ease.

Although Dickinson often used slant rhyme (…From tankards scooped in pearl… Yield such an alcohol!), when I first read her poetry I did not notice the lack of exact rhyme. What I did notice is that she wrote a huge number of poems.

My favorite poem by Dickinson was called “Parting”: “My life closed twice before its close; It yet remains to...”
