“Interesting mystery set in feudal Japan, I liked the main character but felt he was somewhat bland. I plan to read the rest of the series and I'm sure that he will develop over the course of time. I liked the book and the mystery itself and the details of Japanese society were well done.”

It follows well-used plots of a detective husband and a nosy clever wife solving crimes together. This time, the setting is in feudal Japan when the Japanese emperor and Shhogun are vying for control of the country. What was interesting was the description of the rich kimonos worn by the ladies of the court, the atmospheric description of the places which provided the backdrop for this particular thriller.”

Every plot is amazing and intricate in this series.”

I went out and bought my own copy as soon as i finished the library's!”

If you like Robert van Guilk, or even if you don't know who he is (or was), and if you enjoy historical crime even a tiny bit then this is one of the best series in the genre. Interesting characters and vivid settings bring the period and story to vibrant life. Hugely enjoyable!”
