Even though I miss the first L, this book doubles the action with a final introduction of Mello and Near; Light seems to be slow and Ryuk is fairly unforthcoming, but that's nothing in comparison with the new Shinigami in town, gripes! The story is getting increasingly complex, but is still neatly presented and quite simple to understand.

Ugh. I'm just one of those people that doesn't know when to jump off. The series starts off exploring some neat thematic territory, but it jumped the shark some time ago. The internets say that the writer bowed to popular demand and started padding the story. whatever the case, I'll probably read the rest to see how it ends. But I wouldn't recommend Death Note to anyone.
