The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde

by Robert Louis Stevenson

Robert Louis Stevenson originally wrote Dr. Jekyll And Mr Hyde as a "chilling shocker." He then burned the draft and, upon his wife's advice, rewrote it as the darkly complex tale it is today. Stark, skillfully woven, this fascinating novel explores the curious turnings of human character through the strange case of Dr. Jekyll, a kindly scientist who by night takes on his stunted evil self, Mr.... Well, it wasn't as creepy as i thought it would be. It was still good, though.

I never realized this is a short story, rather than a novel. I enjoyed it, though, and thought the story succint and conveyed the struggle of Dr. Jekyll very well without being overly preachy.

If you brought this story into present times it wouldn't be at all interesting because he would merely be a crack addict I suppose, but written during those times - wow.

Charming tale from a time it was believed that people had a Good side and an Evil side, instead of just one pretty bad side.

It wasn't what I was expecting. I thought the book was going to be written from Jekyll/Hyde's point of view, but instead it was written after the fact and by an outside character. I liked the story, but it wasn't one of my favorites (probably because I had to read it for school). :)

I had some expectation regarding the book becuase I have already seen the movie before but truth to be told the book is no where like the movie!
this beautifully written tale really portrays the struggle of good between evil and how easy it is for people to be tempted by the bad things in life. This book was not even horrific as expected rather it tried to portray and ridicule the society during the time this book was written.
I had forgotten how good classic books are and this was at an extent a pleasant read but i don't find myself re-reading this book any time soon.

Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson was a book of mystery. If you are reading this book and you lose focus, then you might get lost reading. Mr. Hyde was a man of pure evil. When any mysterious murder occurred, then Mr. Hyde was the first suspect. What turned Mr. Hyde into such an evil person? Could it have been something he ate, drank or was just born with? Maybe it could be someone else's personality.
