Welcome back to more crazy adventures of Jess Jordan.
School is out and Jess has nothing more planned than to spend her time with her newly turned boyfriend, Fred. But it doesn't take long before disaster strikes. Of all times, Jess's mom has decided to take a vacation. They're to take a road trip so that Jess can visit her father in St. Ives. They'll stop at all sorts of historical and literary sites along the way. She surprises Jess with the news hours before Fred surprises her with tickets to the Riverdene concert. Typical of Jess's life.
Leaving Fred behind, Jess, her mom, and her dear grandmother (along with her grandfather's ashes) head off on the trip. With intermittent phone and text connections with Fred, Jess's mind starts coming up with far-fetched ideas of his indiscretions. Jess's best friend, Flora, has canceled her vacation when Flora's mom winds up with a broken leg. Earlier in the year Flora was keen on Fred. So leaving the two back home without a chaperone could spell a breakup for Jess.
The trip wouldn't be nearly so bad if it weren't for the timing of it. Jess tells her story with anguish and comedy, leaving the reader in hysterics and wanting to learn more. The reader can tell what is about to happen, but the anticipation of Jess's twisted reality is what makes the story so much fun.
Eventually, they get to St. Ives, where Jess finds out the truth about her parents' divorce and what Fred has really been up to while she's been gone.
This installment of Jess Jordan's life picks up where GIRL, 15: CHARMING BUT INSANE left off. And after reading this, I'm already eager to get my hands on GIRL, GOING ON 17: PANTS ON FIRE. I can't imagine what other situations Jess can manage to get into.

Was unable to see past ridiculous, needy, disgusting insecurity of the main character

Absolutely obnoxious. So insecure as to be pathetically whiny and ridiculous. I can understand how she would think her boyfriend would get sick of her, what with her CONSTANT NEED for reassurance and total absence of any comments including, about, or near to one or multiple girls. What a pathetic speciman of a human being, how utterly sad and unlikably. Shut up, stop whining, and get over yourself.
Was occaisonally amusing, the story was good, I enjoyed the first one, but the whining was so ubiquitous that it really interfered with my ability to enjoy it. I am not the most self-confident person ever, but if I was ever that needy and dependent and insecure, well, I would not want to go on, so I did not find it amusing or identify with it or anything. Idiotic. Was a pretty fun story other than that, and it was funny in many other parts, but, god, that drive me to the edge.
...As you can see.

Jane Austen's legacy lives on

Northanger Abbey Road! Fred is a great-great-grandson of Henry Pinkney (at 15.) Sue Limb knows and loves her Austen. Her voice is her own, but the Austen flavor add extra dash.

Hilarious and Charming

This book was just as amusing as the first. This time Jess has to go visit her dad on a two-week roadtrip. While she would have loved this in the first book, she now has Fred. And she hasn't told her mother about him yet. We get to see Jess' father, and also find out something astonishing about him.
Full of cute surprises and charming humor, this book was just as good as the first (if not better). While the first one leaves you tense and ready to slam your face into a wall, the sequel makes you tense, but not TOO tense. If you liked the first one, I'd recommend this one to you as well.

The Best

This was one of the best books I have EVER read! I absolutely loved it. A great sequel to the first book which had a bit more of a plot but not to say I didn't love this one because I did! The grandmother had a tinge of the family humor multiplied by a hundred when it was passed down to the "girl". If you haven't read this book then why in heavens name are you siting there reading my review? Get that lazy butt up out of your chair and move on down to the library or better yet, order it off of Amazon! It will get to you fast! Wait what am I saying!? Read the first book first, love it so much you won't be able to wait another second until you can wrap your hands around the second book, and once you do, read it and then love it so much and try to sustain yourself as you wait out the interminable wait until July 25, 2006 when the third comes out!!!!!!
