short stories about life in india, takes its reader to an earthy, romantic india, musky smell of rain sodden soil, dusty paths, mustard fields, warmth of village bustle . brings to life early to mid last century with tales of travel, romance, nostalgia and aspirations. night train to deoli has the ability to touch each individual reader in a unique way.

i own most of the collection of Ruskin Bond stories. he writes simply, innocently, sincerily. On my occasional summer visits to mussourie, i would hope to bump into him. I never did, but I imagined his hill station, his dehra, his trees, his dad, his boarding, his ayah, his grandmother, his tongawala an the simple folk that he lived around with as vividly as he wrote. I am and will remain very fond of his world of people.

The soft and gentle writing of Ruskin Bond is intoxicating. The simple people described in the book and their mundane experiences are brought out as interestingly and expressively as the adventures of the other Bond-James Bond.
