Albee’s first Pulitzer Prize. Some argued at the time that the play was “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf” unsexed and with its mouth washed out with soap in order to win over the Pulitzer committee (which shockingly passed over “Virginia Woolf” a few years before) and there are certainly elements of the plays that call each to each, but this is a much more ambitious, philosophical, even metaphysical work.
