Good but not great. Maybe it was just my frame of mind (I've been sick lately and my brain might not be working correctly) but I was having a hard time keeping up with some of the details. It may have just been the fact that my tastes don't run with the author's style of writing. Sometimes I felt like he didn't clarify how we were supposed to feel about a particular character or why something happened. As I said before, maybe it was just me being a little slow but nonetheless I felt like I missed out on the experience a little. This wasn't a bad read but I wouldn't recommend to most of my friends mostly because I don't see any of them really liking it. Also, there is quite a bit of language.

Another foreign intrigue thriller I could not finish. Enjoyed the writer's craft but could not get past the cerebral nature of the story. I just couldn't get involved enough with the character's stories to care. How sad, right???

This is an enjoyable mystery/thriller, although there are some pacing issues. The book creates an excellent picture of life in the Soviet Union. At times action became a bit convoluted, but the plot is engaging enough to get through it.

My most favourite crime novel. When I first read this it seemed like nothing I had read before in this genre. Arkardy Renko is such a great character. The author is something of a poet and it shows in most of his books.

I just watched the film - and I'm sooo disappointed, because I love the book.
