I just love Lorna Landvik's novels. Her characters struggle with the problems in their lives and seek to find happiness. Something we can all relate to but her characters do it without the typical grandiosity found in other novels.

It was a light and easy read without much depth to it.

I just love Lorna Landvik's novels. Her characters struggle with the problems in their lives and seek to find happiness. Something we can all relate to but her characters do it without the typical grandiosity found in other novels.

In this book, we follow a boy named Joe as he deals with the loss of his father and a drastic change in his life in his teenage years... as he grows up. It's a really good book that celebrates a life well lived with loving relationships over a life lived grandly and alone.

The problem with some books is that the lives of the characters are often "fancy" and not like anyone the reader might know. In Lorna's books, the characters could easily be your neighbors or live in your town or in this case, be your grocer.

Highly recommend this book to anyone who loves "Fried Green Tomatoes" (the movie) or any of the books written by Fannie Flagg (who wrote the book "Fried Green Tomatoes at Whistle Stop Cafe")

Quirky. It's been about 3 years since I read anything by Landvik and I'd forgotten how odd -- and graphic -- her characters can be.

3.5 stars. Joe's life takes some unexpected turns, but he has the best view from Mount Joy. This is not her best, but I really love Landvik.

This book was absolutely wonderful! I loved everything about it. The characters were well developed and the dialogue was brilliant. I laughed out loud and silently cried. It was truly delightful.

I enjoyed another Landvik book, so I picked up this one. Took me a little bit to get used to a female author writing in a male voice; especially a teenage male voice! I enjoy stories like this that cover the character's whole life. The story resonated with me since Joe was virtually the same age that I am. My only complaint is that Joe was almost too likable; he didn't seem to have any flaws.
