An excellent book for any U.S. history buff. I thoroughly enjoyed every bit of it. I was intrigued by John Wilkes Booth and his motives for assassinating President Lincoln.

I didn`t read it all the way through but it was so not for me! Even though I am a historical person, this book had no action, just BLAH BLAH BLAH! BORING! what kind of loser would read this book (my brother, i got it off of his shelf!) :)

This was an interesting narrative of Booth's assassination of Lincoln and the resulting chase. The book centers around Booth and his attempt to reach "the South" in order to find safety. It not only discusses the assassination (which all books do) but also goes into personal motives, daily activities leading up to that night, and correspondences that reveal a premeditated kidnapping plan that fell through. It also covers the actions of Booth's accomplices and their botched attempts at assassination. All in all, "Manhunt" gives you a broader picture than most books about Lincoln's assassination.

Hang on to your seat; this book is like a rollercoaster ride from the beginning! I can't wait to read Jimmy Swanson's next book!

Swanson did a great job of combining the historical facts that lead up to Lincoln's assassination, the assassination and the 12 days leading after. even if your not into historical book, this does not read like a historical text book. it reads more like a novel that used real facts to make the story. for all history lovers a like, espacially if you like the civil war period, it a a mist read. 10 out of 10

This dragged in a few places, but I enjoyed it and learned more about the story of Lincoln's assassination.

Page-turning account of the crazy actor who killed Lincoln and his crazy accomplices who tried to kill Seward and Johnson.

Description of the hunt for John Wilkes Booth after the assassination of Lincoln. Describes the events leading to the assassination, the conspirators, and the details of the full plan as well as Booth’s earlier attempt to kidnap the president and transport him to Richmond. Implicates Dr. Mudd who has been portrayed through movies as an innocent bystander to the events.

The layout of this book was fantastic. It set me up so I actually felt like I was there, running away alongside Lincoln’s killer. At times when the people in the book were getting desperate, I felt myself tightening up in anxiousness. The same reactions happened throughout the entire story. When I read this book I could tell that the author, James L. Swanson, really took time on sorting through all the facts and information he collected. Not only that but he probably spent most of his time on gathering all the information. As I read the story, I was overwhelmed with details of the chase; sometimes I would say it was too much information, but I think it is good to collect all the data in one whole. Another downside to this book was at times the word choice was at times too wordy. Overall this story of Lincoln’s killer was really well put together and very informational. It’s a good read if you are someone who is into US history.
