"The Hobbit" holds the esteemed place in my heart and bookshelf as being the first book I ever really loved. My Aunt Debbie, who always gives us books for presents, gave me a copy when I was 10. I struggled through it, but was rewarded by its timeless story and beloved protagonists. It's clear that Tolkien cherished every blade of grass, every rock, and every tree in Middle Earth, and that sentiment transcends to his countless fans.

I re-read "The Hobbit" earlier this year, just because I had re-read all of The Lord of The Rings series and "The Children of Hurin" and hadn't gotten Tolkien out of my system. It is completely worth the re-read.

My exposure to the Hobbit is rather similar. I read it around that same age, though it's because my older brother was reading it for school, and was talking about how complex it was compared to their other reading assignments. I decided to read it too, and it was tough, but a great book and one of the core reasons I really got in to fantasy later on.
