The fairy tale is infinitely more charming than the epic, the battle story more touching than the war saga. One often forgets, when considering...” see full review » see other reviews » |

I always like to read about what's behind the story, and maybe even the story of a story. It makes me understand the whole book, the plot and theme, a lot more.
What a wonderful book, I'm not able to describe it better.”
“It explores into the world of many languages, I guess.”

The book seems to hurry at the end, after the final encounter between Bilbo and Smaug. Tolkien hurries through a titanic battle then brings Bilbo home safe and sound. ”

Decided to reread this book after talking about it with a friend. First read approx age 12 in 1969. Fun quick read, but don’t feel compelled to reread the subsequent trilogy Lord of the Rings.”
“Great book!”

Bilbo Baggins! This is a story unto itself, but also the beginning of the ultimate quest story. Even if you never read Tolkien's 'Ring' series, this is a must.”
