    • This story starts off at The Hill with Bilbo Baggins. A Baggins never goes on an adventure or does anything unexpected. Except for this Baggins, which gets dragged into an adventure with thirteen dwarves with a little push from Gandalf. Bilbo sets out with these dwarves as their Burglar. Their goal is to defeat the dragon Smaug and reclaim the treasure that is rightfully Thorin's. This adventure they are all about to partake is not a safe mission, there is possibility of death.

The dwarves and Bilbo's journey started off from the Green Dragon Inn. Gandalf joined them but just as quickly as he entered their journey, he disappeared. Cold, wet and hungry, they saw a light in the distance, and sent Bilbo to investigate. What he found were three trolls.
After defeating the trolls (with Gandalf's help, for he shows up just in time) by having them turned into stone by keeping them outside until dawn, they all went looking for the trolls' cave. Stocking up on whatever supplies they found inside.

Next they went into the valley of Rivendell where Elrond lives in the Last Homely House, where they were to spend at least fourteen days rejuvenating. This valley was a safe place where evil things did not venture.
But the eventually had to leave the safety of the valley to continue their adventure, over the Misty Mountains to the land beyond.

While on the mountain and taking refuge from a storm in a cave they are ambushed by goblins. All were taken hostage except for Gandalf, who escaped. The prisoners are taken underground to the Great Goblin, who judges what will become of them. Right when the Great Goblin was about to kill Thorin, Gandalf made his appearance and saved the day by killing the Great Goblin. After their retreat they found themselves lost in the goblins tunnels, with the goblins hot on their trail. After a scuffle, Bilbo was dropped and separated from the group.

Bilbo, now lost and alone, tried to make his way in the dark to safety, but only found a ring, he pocketed in his wanderings. When he gets to the end of the tunnel, he encounters Gollum. To get to know one another better they exchange riddles. If Bilbo can't solve one, then Gollum was going to eat him. If Gollum can't solve one, then Bilbo was to be set free and shown the way out. Bilbo's last question to Gollumm was, “What have I got in my pocket?” Which Gollum got wrong and in the end, Bilbo came out the victor of this little riddle game. Gollum did not keep his promise though and attacked Bilbo instead. When Bilbo was trying to escape he happened to put on the ring, and when Gollum passed right by him, he was able to figure out what the ring did; it made the wearer invisble. Gollum thinking the hobbit headed for the back-door made haste there, and the hobbit slowly followed along, unseen. With the ring of invisiblility and Gollum's help, Mr. Baggins escapes.

Now lost and alone outside, he goes looking for his friends. Hearing their voices he surprises them and recalls to them his way of escape, minus the ring part. Now all together once again and rested, they journey out and continue on their way; continue their adventure. They ended up in a forest with a pack of wolves. Dangerous wolves known as Wargs. The group hid in trees because the Wargs could not climb.
The Wargs and Goblins work together, helping one another with their evil deeds and sharing the plunder.
Gandalf knew the Wargs were afraid of fire and set them alight, saving the dwarves and Bilbo, once again.
Except the goblins showed up and started to light the trees on fire, stopping their escape. Right when Gandalf decided to give his life to save his friends the Lord of the Eagles swept down and seized him in his talons, bringing him to safety. The other eagles went and saved the dwarves and Bilbo that were still stuck in the tree. They were all saved by eagles and spent the night comfortably and full.

The eagles carried them to as far as they could fly and dropped them off on the Carrock. There Gandalf informed them all that this was the end for him and that he would be parting with them in a couple of days. But first, he was to bring them to see Beorn. They spent two nights there and then were off on their journey once more, with provisions to last them weeks and new fears that made them wish Gandalf would stay with them. But it was not to be so, and Gandalf left while they journeyed into Mirkwood.

Now in Mirkwood, it was pitch black and many eyes followed them. They were sick and tired of the dark, their provisions and water was diminishing fast, when they came upon a stream. Beorn had warned them of this stream. It was an enchanted stream. They had to find a way to cross it without getting wet. They found a boat and in groups crossed to the other side, unfortunately Bombur was the only one that fell in. When they got him out he was fast asleep. They continued on with the burden of having to carry Bombur, who was fattest of them all. Very weary it seemed their journey through the forest would not end, so the dwarves sent Bilbo to climb a tree. They were almost out of the forest, but Bilbo could not tell and all he saw around him were trees, and further on more trees. That night it rained. The only thing that relieved a part of their stress was Bombur waking, except he had no memories. With hunger taking over, they ventured off the path, they were warned not to leave, no matter what! Tricked by spiders they were caught in their spiderwebs, entangled, poisoned...well everyone but Bilbo. Bilbo found them and set them free, but a battle ensued with the spiders, and Bilbo had to let the dwarves in on his secret of the ring, if they were to manage getting out of the forest alive. This raised their respect for Mr. Baggins immensely. Only to realize too late that Thorin was missing. He had been captured by the Wood-elves (Good People). They threw him in the dungeons with lots to eat and drink.

The next day, the rest of the troop was captured by the Wood-elves, except for Bilbo, who slipped on his magic ring, and followed behind. When they too refused to give the Elvenking the information he wanted to know, he put them all in prison, in separate cells, without telling them he had their leader, Thorin.
Bilbo eventually found Thorin after about two weeks of wandering around the Wood-elves cave and decided to try, by himself, to find a way out. He found their was a water-gate they could escape from, by barrels. Which is just what they were all forced into doing, but they escaped the Wood-elves, and the forest, Mirkwood.

They made their way to Lake-town. Thorin proclaimed himself the heir to the King under the Mountain. All of Lake-town's townspeople were thrilled and started singing old songs and rejoicing about the return of their soon-to-be wealth, and soon-to-be death of Smaug. After a fortnight they set out for the Lonely Mountain.

They arrivved at the Mountain that contained the dragon, Smaug, and set looking for the secret door. Which appeared one day with a red moon.

Bilbo was the only one to venture in. When he came to the end of the path, he found Smaug and the dwarves treasure. Bilbo stole a cup from the Mountains depths and showed it to the dwarves, when Smaug awoke and saw that something was amiss. In a rage, he flew from the cave in the Mountain. They all escaped into the secret door and hid until Smaug's wrath calmed. When Bilbo thought Smaug was asleep he crept back into the cave, but Smaug was only pretending. When Bilbo noticed, Smaug spoke and Bilbo only answered in riddles. Never revealing who he was. After a while Bilbo felt like revealing himself and telling Smaug all, which was Smaug's spell. Bilbo just barely got away. He went back to the dwarves frazzled and anxious. He made them shut the door, right when Smaug decided to attack! He then left the Mountain to attack Lake-town.

They were all trapped in the Mountain, and slowly ventured in the direction of Smaug's layer. Only Bilbo ventured completely in with a small light and climbed the treasure. He found the Arkenstone and pocketed it, without the dwarves knowing. His light went out and the dwarves came to his aid. After they all started pocketing gems and jewels, whatever they could fit in their pockets, then they dressed in armour, and onc ethey were suited and could carry no more they made their journey out through the Front Gate.

In the meantime, Smaug had flown to Lake-town and started war with the people. The water was not friend to Smaug. But the townspeople did not know this. An old thrush (bird) came to Bard, who was still fighting and spoke to him, telling him of the dragon's exposed left breast, and it was Bard that shot Smaug down, into the water he fell, and Smaug was no more. Part of the town and the Wood-elves banded together and set forth, heading to the Mountain.

A raven came to the dwarves and told them that Smaug was dead as well as warn them of the oncoming soldiers, and the battle that will eventually occur. So, the dwarves got ready for battle and used the Mountain as their stronghold.

After being held in the Mountain for days, reinforcements were said to be on their way. Bilbo devises a plan. He sneaks down and goes to see Bard. He gives them the Arkenstone. When Gandalf appears and greets him thrilled at his doings. Then Bilbo leaves the camps and returns to the stronghold of the Mountain.

In the morning, Bard and the Elvenking, came with an old man and presented the Arkenstone to Thorin as long as he gave them their share, they would give up the Arkenstone. Bilbo proclaimed it was he that gave them the stone and Thorin immediately calls him traitor! He is then promised his share, so he can split it amongst the people besieging and they promise him the stone once they have gotten their share.
The next day, the reinforcements arrived. When war was about to start, Gandalf interrupted them by telling of the goblins and wargs that were coming. A different battle happened, one no one expected, the Battle of the Five Armies. On one side, Goblins and Wild Wolves, on the other side, Elves and Men and Dwarves. When it looked like the latter side was losing the Eagles appeared.

The battle is now over and the Good prevailed over evil. Unfortunately, Thorin died from his many wounds. While Bilbo had been unconscious, Beorn had also shown up to join the battle. Of Thorin's Company only ten remained. Fili and Kili had fallen while defending their leader. Dain became King under the Mountain and split the treasure evenly among all.
Bilbo set on his journey back home, with Gandalf by his side.

Bilbo Baggins returned to his Hobbit-hole just in time to see everything he owned being auctioned off, for he was assumed dead. So, he had to buy back everything. He lost the respect of all the hobbits, who thought him “queer”, but he didn't mind. He enjoyed life a lot better and had the friendship of elves, wizards, dwarfs, and more.
