    That is a good point. Frodo actually seemed to know more of what he was doing. Bilbo wasn't informed near as well as Frodo, so that does make the first one sort of interesting.

    Personally, I'd say that the Hobbit is something you should read if you love LOTR. You *can* skip over it (a major mistake) but it does explain a few things.
    Like, it explains why Gloin was so cold toward the woodelves at the council of Elrond. Because they had held him prisioner!
