I think I have to place this in my all-time favorite books category. It was absolutely fantastic! I was hooked by Haggard's writing style from the first page, it was fun and surprisingly quick and easy to read. After that, the adventure, humor, and action kept me reading when my eyes were so heavy and hurting from lack of sleep, I don't know how I continued.

Renee K said: I believe I was a bit disappointed because I was expecting more about the Mines and less about the trip getting there. This is not an "Indiana Jones" or "National Treasure" type story with booby trapped treasure hunts. Stereotypical references regarding race from a late nineteenth century author are distracting, even when put in historical context.
