Life changing book. The way he explains cheap grace and costly grace is incredibly challenging. Plus his handling of the sermon on the mount is incredible. Every Christian should read it and reread it when given the chance.

This book will challenge you in your faith. Bonhoeffer delivers a death blow to cheap grace and calls on Christians to live out their convictions in a life changing way. If you know the story of Bonhoeffer, then you know about his fight against Hitler and in a very real way, denied himself to take up his cross to follow Christ. He left America, went back to Germany to build the church, fight nazism and ultimately be put to death by the nazi fascists. If you have ever read Paul's words to "test yourself to see if you are in the faith" and wonder if you fail the test as Paul asks, then you need to read this book. It will clarify where you stand.

I was a little afraid to read this book, thinking it would be too deep or too difficult for me. In stead, I enjoyed it. I read it a little at a time, which probably helped. Bonhoeffer talks about cheap grace....we accept God's grace, say we're forgiven, and then continue to live however we want. But if we accept God's grace, we ARE forgiven, and we need to live as if we are in relationship with Christ. Following Christ is costly, but it's worth it.

This is one of two books that i plan to begin reading in Janurary. I've heard nothing but good things about this book by Bonhoeffer. This study should essentially light upon the fundamental commitment, as a follower of Christ, a disciple, to embody communally and historically the kingdom of God so fully that mercy, forgiveness, and compassion are the forerunners of our thoughts and actions. Thank Mr. Fike for allowing me to borrow your beloved copy!

Amazing and insightful. The man had the gift of God for sure. His insights into the scripture and what the cost of following is changed a generation.

A book we should all read in today's compromizing world; where the church seems to be taking the 'path of least resistance' on too many issues.
