“I think Family Matters is a decent book, but a far cry from his excellent previous work (especially A Fine Balance). But this is a great book for its description of the problems the family faces in India, and actually seems interesting to read against A Fine Balance, which takes place during Indira Gandhi's government in the same country. Interesting how the concerns have shifted somewhat, both politically and at the basic level of how families deal with tragedy and poverty.”
“I read this back when it came out in 2002 or 2003. I am looking forward to rereading again this month for a book discussion group.”
“a very good work.”
“Excellant book, down to earth writer, dealing with very common issues of very common people; but with a new eye and attitude.”
“Which is your favorite character of the book? Mine is Yezzad , simply for the fact that character had grey shades. Seemed like a man caught in wishes and responsibilities . Anguish that he suffers , his love and abhorrance for his father in law., his fears all have been caught in such a nice way, i couldnt help but falling for this character. ”
