Great book if you love history and personal stories.

Interesting, though too many details that I couldn't remember anyway.

I read this book when I was twelve and loved it, then I read it again when I was fifteen and loved it. I learned more by reading this one book than by reading thirty books I had about this time period before. Captivatingly interesting, packed with information, 1776 is a book I highly recommend, especially to those interested in this time period or wars in general. McCullough used letters and journals from men such as George Washington to almost tell the story for him so it is very real and the reader almost feels they know these men of history personally. My only qualm with this book is that it tells everything, including the immorality of certain people. It does so carefully, but it is there nonetheless.

A great illustration of the amazing courage of our Founding Fathers and the soldierly sacrifice that built this wonderful nation.

This is an easy to read history of the American Revolution in late 1775 through early 1777. It looks at it from a varity of view points not just those of George Washington and a few of the other leaders, although it certainly looks at it from their perspective too.

I guess I am not as interested in the Revolutionary War as I thought I was.

This is a very interesting description of the year 1776 and the beginning of the Revolutionary War.

David McCullough is a great writer. After the tape broke, I took a hiatus and listened to a couple other books. An unabridged set of discs should be at the library tomorrow for me to pick up.

The book is very good. It actually picks up in 1775 with King James planning for rebellion in the colonies. I learned a lot about the first year of the Revolution from this book. Highly recommended.
