A wonderful history of a watershed year from our most beloved historian. I’m a bit baffled by the complaints of “dryness” below, as I know of no history writer more “moist” than McCullough, whose works are so vivid and gripping that they read like novels. This one covers the first year of the...

This particular book does an outstanding job at putting a human face to the events of 1776. McCullough combed through mountains of historic documents on both sides of the Atlantic to write the narrative of this most important period in American history.

This book will be used in my classroom as a resource for the students to use.

Have to love the way McCullough writes. This was especially interesting to me because I live on Long Island. Had no idea that so much of the Revolutionary War in 1776 happened in the New York Metro area.

The history of the founding of our country is fascinating! McCullough has done a masterful job of detailing one perilous year when luck, skill and determination were key to the founding of the United States

This book should be required reading for every person who lives in America. No, seriously.

It's astonishing that the feeble continental army was not blown off the face of the earth, but rather took on and eventually defeated the British empire. This is an AWESOME book.

I read the first of three parts. If you like history, you will like this book. If you don't like history, you probably won't like this book. It was not my favorite.
