“What a good, suspenseful mind thriller. The whole book will have you wondering. Is there a ghost? Is the governess mad? Did the ghost make the governess crazy? Read and decide for yourself!”
“Henry James is not one of my favorite authors. The Turn of the Screw is about a nanny in Britain who is looking after two children and believes she is being haunted. Jame's novel was part of a new wave of horror literatue in which the object of horror could or could not be a manifestation of the character's psyche. I read this in my American Lit. I class in college, but I put it on my shelf because maybe someone out there will decide to read it and like it.”
“i agree with amanda h.it was a very wordy book and boring at times.the story line was good, but i had trouble keeping interest.”
“I couldn't understand 15 words of this book. Started it but never finished.”
“This story was one of the hardest "thrillers" I've ever read. Too wordy. Not scary. REALLY BORING. I read this for pleasure bc I had always heard so much about it, and was thoroughly disappointed. I think it was mainly because of the style--that time period seemed to stress wordiness over brevity. Some of the sentences in this book are as long as paragraphs. Too many commas and clauses. ”
