“I liked the book. The concept was amazing. Crichton took it to another level altogether with this one. Though the story could have been spun a little tighter, nothing takes this away from the author who was clearly at the top of his game.”
“Meh... I thought this book was pretty bad as far as his other stuff went. I had read Andromeda Strain and Jurassic Park. I guess this was the early '90's? The beginning was intense. Then nothing happens for 300 pages. ”
“That was Crichton's gift! He was amazing! He had the ability to present new ideas in technology to the reader, have the reader do a little figuring out for himself, and then let them participate in construction of the rollercoaster! I have a hungry mind, that's why I like to read. I've chipped away at some mighty boring books, but even those are worthwhile when you learn what makes a book boring in the first place. That's no problem with Congo.Crichton doesn't rehash theories or present current technology as if he's the first one ever to comment on it...he goes deep! He peels back the skin layer and reveals a glittering new area few authors are able to display.I read Congo on a very long very boring car trip to visit my mother-in-law. While I was dreading the destination, I became lost in the jungle! If you ever find yourself with a copy, do yourself a big favor and read it. It gets your neurons firing, the rust will just flake off of your gears.”
“and i am happy i have not seen the movie”
“The movie short-changed the book; the book was terrific! When one uses their imagination while reading Crichton's books, a whole new world opens up and the suspense mounts exponentially!”
“Michael Crichton has immense foresight which is brought out in this book”
