This is one of my most favorite books ever. I think I really connected with some of the themes..sisters, books, reading, authors, mystery. Loved it. I seem to be comparing every book I have read since to it. Has anyone found a similar book? I believe this one could be called a modern gothic novel or a bilbiomystery.

I enjoyed the book and the style of the author. However, was anyone else just fed up with all the twin references? I get that it a big part of Vida Winter's story, but I don't think it should have been that important to Margaret.

Was the Cinderella Story that Miss Winter told to Margaret on p.400 and 401 the Thirteenth Tale? This would be the biography that Margaret was hired to write.

I am leading a discussion for book club and would like to hear what other people thought. Was this really Miss Winter or just a story?

The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield
I couldn't stop reading this book, and when I wasn't reading it, I was thinking about it. It's an extraordinary book.

I'm lovin this book. I'm about 3 quarters of the way through. It's unusual, romantic and interesting. When you conjure the perfect image of being curled up in front of a fire on a rainy day, reading a book, this is the kind of read that you wish for.

“We're reading this for the book club that I organized last month..I had to open up to new possiblities of interesting stories that I wasn't used to reading..This was definitely a challenged read.. To me it was a bit poetic for myself, but it did have an interesting story..I just wish it wasn't such a poetic story..I would have understood more if was written in normal english than over the top intelligence.. I like simple reading that I can relate to.. But overall I was captivated with the twist towards the end...
And I have to agree with other reviewers: Why bring on a romance at the very end? It seemed useless to the story.

I loved this writer, and for me the idea that every person needs a story was the most captivating concept . I kept thinking back to my childhood and wondering if the issues with some family members were because they were lacking a family story. Everyone NEEDS a story to tell!

I've read other reviews of this novel, and I do not embrace the "ghost " concept, in fact I really do not get that idea, I think the author was trying to go beyond the literal ghost concept and trying to capture the concept of "ghosts in our lives" like past issues people carry around, skeletons in the closet in families, etc.. maybe I am taking it to a deeper level than the author intended, but my goodness the characters were pretty intense indiviuals. Amazing story! It inspires me to write a novel because everyone has a story to tell!
