I liked this one much more than blue like jazz. It's a lot funnier, and give you more to think about.

I bought this because I heard a clip of Donald Miller reading the first chapter and thought his presentation was funny and captivating. That charm was absent in the plain reading of the text, and I lost interest by about chapter 8 or so.

This book was really good for me because a lot of my years I didn’t have a dad at home, and when I did it was really different and so this book really helped me see how it can affect people and showed me a bit more about myself and how it really affected me.

So good! Its written mainly for people who grew up without a dad - but I still got so much out of it. A different perspective on our fatherly relationship with the Lord.

Touching story of his search for a father and anger with God for not having one.

I read this just because I knew he would write well about the human condition. I can't relate to growing up without a father, but I was interested in his thoughts about how it affected him.

I read this book at least one year ago and recommended to a friend whose husband's father died when he was a teenager. This book puts wonderful vocabulary around the subject of growing up with a father that was absent for any reason. As I read this book I wondered if Don realized that although this book was written from the perspective of a boy growing up without a father, the feelings he expresses are felt by men who grew up physically with a father, however either choose to or by circumstances beyond their control, were unable to engage in the life of their son.

In the prolouge Miller warns that this book is for men. He means it. There are some fresh perspectives of God as father, but again, mostly for those with a penis.

Really interesting--even for people who had a father figure growing up. Very insightful into our new fatherless culture.
