A Canticle for Liebowitz

by Walter M. Miller Jr.

Great classic. A good story in itself but also a parody of organized religion and mystycism. (read review)

The story of a post apocalyptic order of monks, the struggle to rise from the ashes, literally, and the conflict between the use of scientific knowledge and morality. I came away with a rather domed feeling, but it was an interesting book, particularly coming on the heels of Brother Cadfael. The two Abbeys were quite alike, actually.

Quite thought provoking, and an interesting look at the things humanity revers.
