“I teach this book and my students tend to like it quite a bit. It has something for almost everyone. I love how tightly Atwood weaves the structure around the quilt motif. And I love love love the epigraphs! ”
“What fascinates me is that the incident really happened, and Margaret Atwood fills in the gaps beautifully without demystifying it - we don't know if Grace is indeed guilty and the lapses in her memory/recounts sort of parallel the gaps in the real incident, what the close observers of the case could not know and what we will never know as well. And like Margaret Atwood, we can only at best attempt to fill up those gaps ourselves, using our own imagination while being conscious of the fact that it is mere imagination, not the whole truth and only Grace and possibly McDermott knows for certain what happened. In a way, that's kind of frustrating. Don't you think? ][”
“Interestingly enough, I found that more people (usually women) liked this book in Canada. Since I have been in the states, a lot of people don't even know who Margaret Atwood is, let alone read this book. I think if you are actually from Toronto, you feel much more connection with this wonderful novel.”
“After just having finished this book and thoroughly enjoying it, I was curious to know how other people would respond to the ultimate question: who done it?”
“Oh definitely guilty.”
“Sooooo.... Grace. Innocent or guilty?”
“One of my favourite books!!! Nice plot, intriguing details!”
