Liked It“Yet another wonderful book my Mary Doria Russel! She has a knack for evoking emotions out of her readers, I highly recommend anything she writes. This is the third book of hers that I've read and I am very glad to have picked it up. |

In this novel, she writes about WWII and the way the Italians protected and hide the Jewish community despite great risks to themselves. It was a beautifully woven story. Very well written and well worth reading!”
“Beautifully written novel about WWII Italian resistance.”

Russell has created complex characters and brings a piece of history to life. The courage and resourcefulness of the Italians, both Catholic and Jew,is remarkable. ”

It isn't an easy read - lots of details to absorb about the war and the geography of the region and many characters, but worth the effort. Very good historical fiction that teaches you something.”

In "AThread of Grace," Russell composes a brilliant historical ode to the Italian Resistance that operated during World War II. Her command of the English langauge and her ability to develop a startling tapestry of compelling characters is tremendous. I am curious whether she wrote this book before or after she converted from Catholisism to Judaism.”

It's about Jews running from Hitler, looking for safety, and it's about the people of Italy who helped them. It's a fictional account of peasants, priests, officials, soldiers, and ordinary residents of villages and farms who ran for safety, offered up their homes, worked in disguise, and sometimes sacrificed themselves to help their fellow man, regardless of their nationality or religion. I liked the characters of this book and hoped for their safety. It's evident that the author has done quite a lot of research and put a lot of time into this book. If I had anything negative to say about it, I might say that the details of troop movements and the sheer number of characters make the book hard to follow at times. ”

This take on WW II was new information for me and very enlightening. I heard Mary Doria Russell speak about this book and she really does her research. I would reccomend this to everyone.”
