It's great to see a talented artist get recognition and respect. It is now an honor to have a building tagged by Banksy as apposed to it being an act of vandalism. I just wish that people would follow the lead and stop tagging their names in attempted grafiti font and start practicing their craft to better emulate the idea behind grafiti. As a grafiti artist myself, I would never tag a building with some goof-ball gang/city pride crap. I would hope to paint something that would stop people in their tracks and take a moment.

I agree with the statement that his art is more legitimate because of the message. I mean kids spraying words in bubble letters on walls dosent even compare to Banksy's work and people i think reconize that.

Does the quality of Banksy's art justify his vandalism?

I have a real dilemma with Banksy. I love his work, everything he does is inspirational and, to be honest, the more recent works (in particular the false artworks) I think are clearly justified (and works such as the Palestine series are legitimate art) I find it very hard to forget that he was just spray painting on walls for most of the start of his career.

When the local kids spray stencils onto the wall it irritates me, it Banksy more legitimate simply because of his ability?

Yes, yes I do. Graffiti is an important form of self-expression, and banksy has taken it to the next level.

I don't know. I really really like his stuff. And to be honest, I'm not all that opposed to graffiti...

But I might say Banksy is more legit because of his message.
