I love C.S. Lewis's stuff for how much they make me think and re-evaluate myself. He had so much insight.

The story and the various encounters Lewis's narrator relates to us are intriguing and perceptive in terms of the ways the human heart and mind deceive themselves. What is it that keeps human beings from God? Is it unspeakable evil? No, if anything some of the best of us can interfere in being able to step forward. Lewis shows us the fallenness of the world infects everything even beautiful things like the love of a mother for her son.

This is a short and easy to read book.

On the other hand, having just read Witherington's commentary on Revelations and Wright's Surprised By Grace, I found much of Lewis created world to be tilted to Platonic dualism which undermined the overall book for me.

Very interesting "take" on the ideas of hell and purgatory...why someone presented with a chance at heaven would possibly choose against it.

Wow! This book didn't hook me until about 15 pages in. Once the bus pulled up to the outskirts of heaven, I was committed! Read this book!

This was amazing! There were so many great insights and thoughts, especially on heaven and time. My favorite part: "Then what ARE we born for?" "For infinite happiness... You can step out into it at any moment..."

Great fictional alternative ideas about hell that, in my opinion, refer to choices we make now that keep us from the "real".
