"Our hero fell without firing a shot." Enter Becky, exit Amy. The literary intelligentsi can call "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" Twain's masterpiece all they want: I've always found Huck as dull as dishwater compared to Tom. For me, there's always, only been Tom--that quintessential...

I've always loved the movie so I wanted to read the book. It's pretty good so far. Not bored with it at all.

Sparkling with mischief, jumping with youthful adventure, Mark Twain's Tom Sawyer is one of the most splendid re-creations of childhood in all of literature. It is a lighthearted romp, full of humor and warmth. It shares with its sequel, Huckleberry Finn , not only a set of unforgettable characters--Tom, Huck, Aunt Polly and others--but a profound understanding of humanity as well. Through such hilarious scenes as the famous fence-whitewashing incident, Twain gives a portrait--perceptive yet tender--of a humanity rendered foolish by his own aspirations and obsessions. Written as much for adults as for young boys and girls, Tom Sawyer is the work of a master storyteller performing in his shirt sleeves, using his best talents to everyone's delight.

This is a great story to teach about life in the late 1800's as well as what it was like to live in the south. It would be a good book for a group or indepenent class read. i think getting the students to understand the characters is important for this story.

This would be a great book to use for a thematic unit that taught students about rural life in the south. The book is also great for having students study about the antebellum south and how images of people and diversity have changed.

You could also use this book to have students design their own newspaper!
You could have the students design a newspaper online. You can email them or upload them onto various sites, like your school's webpage, and even print and post them on the wall.

This is a very important classic book that everyone should read. After having the class read the book, each student will make a movie poster. Each student will create one, they will add pictures, quotes from the book and create an appealing catchy phrase. Once the class is done creating their movie posters, you will hang them up in the hall around school trying to get other students and classes interested in the book so they will read it.

The Adventures of Tom Sawyer is another American classic that many people throughout their academic career have read. This book can be incorporated into the classroom by having the student create their own newspaper about the events that are happening in the story. Students who are elementary school should probably not read this book quite yet.
