    "Tom!
    No answer.
    Tom!
    No answer.
What's gone with that boy, I wonder? You TOM!"

I can't imagine growing up and not having read The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. Almost all the scenes, whitewashing the fence, flirting with Becky Thatcher, getting lost in the cave and being chased by Injun Joe are an important part of my imagination's landscape.

A classic, with some things that I had forgotten in the story. It had a great deal more philosophy than I remembered. Definitely worthy of it's status.

Tom Sawyer was one of my favorite books growing up. I must have read it once a year all through middle and high school. Tom and I didn't have very much in common, and I went from delighted to upset with him several times over the course of the book.

An irreverent romp through a moment in time. A picture of America during that moment. A delightful group of children who are "real" and not to-good-to-be-true. This was a book which I read to my children, it has many issues worthy of discussion and teaches with humor.

How can you not love Tom Sawyer?! One of Twain's most lovable characters and best books. It's a pretty easy read too.

I'll never forget how this book begins. Tom ,Yoo Hoo, Tom!!!! I remember because my mother read it aloud to me for the first time. I've read it myself two times since then.. but I'll never forget that first time with her hollering Tom! I was sure he was going to actually answer. From those first few words Tom Sawyer came alive for me and remains a favorite to this day. Introduce your children to great literature at a young age and the love of reading will always be a part of their life. Put your whole heart into a great read!

Isn't it funny the parts of books that will stay in your mind forever? For me -- the part in Tom Sawyer is when Injun Joe is waiting outside the Widow Douglas' house for her lights to go out. Then he will fix her. Only she falls asleep reading and the lights keep burning. As a child, I wanted to keep my light on a little longer, after finishing a book. You know, just in case. This book which my mother read aloud to me, was the scariest book, I had ever heard. ~smile~
