• Susannah "Suze" Simon: The lead or the protagonist in the story. She is a mediator, wherein she helps ghosts or spirits to cross over or move on. She will eventually like Jesse in a special way. Very strong and not afraid to punch someone in the face if she has to. Very strong physically and emotionally.
• Jesse de Silva: He is a ghost and about a hundred and fifty years old. He was murdered in a boarding house, which is Suze's house in the present. But before he was killed, he was about to marry his cousin, Maria de Silva. He is super hot and Suze is in love with him. He calls Suze Susannah.
• Maria de Silva: She is the cousin of Jesse, to whom she was arranged to get married. But she loves Felix Diego and her father won't allow her to marry him. She is really mean and the kind of girl that Suze would punch.
• Felix Diego: He is a slave-runner. He loved Maria de Silva. He also killed Jesse.
• Jack Slater: The kid whom Susannah babysits during the summer. But he has a problem: he can see dead people. He only likes Susannah.
• Paul Slater: He is the older brother of Jack. He is also a hottie.
• Clive Clemmings: The head or director of the Carmel-by-the-Sea Historical Society. His godfather was Colonel Harold Clemmings, who was the author of The Monterey.
• Father Dominic: Principal of the Mission Academy. Also a mediator. Helps Suze even though she never listens to what he has to say. Believes in helping the ghosts peacefully, not physically, like Suze.
