Lucy Szabo is diabetic, and that's led her to think up some interesting theories about vampires. Lucy believes that vampire legends were inspired by dying diabetics--the uncontrollable thirst, the deathlike appearance.
When Lucy gets involved with an interesting crowd--including a "real" vampire, a cute boy from school, and a bunch of burnout Goths--she starts to lose control of her life. She's sneaking out at night, her grades are plummeting rapidly, and she passes out at school because of an insulin reaction. Lucy's life is falling apart, and only she can pull the pieces back together again.
SWEETBLOOD is definitely an interesting novel, and very original. It's interesting in terms of Lucy's theories and in terms of how vampire legends started, but also just as a personal story, as the story of Lucy's life. There are good, intriguing characters throughout the novel, it's quite well-written, and very much worth reading.”

And the story of a young girl going through a rebelious and scary stage. It was dank in some sorts but its something interesting to read.”

I chose the first book that i could find in the box that sits in our classroom, thinking that i would read it for one period, hate it, and bring a different book to read the next day. However, once i started to read this book, i realized that i truly liked it a lot. It was very engaging, authentic, and funny. The main character is so incredibly insane that it made it fun to read about. The book is somewhat realistic in that this goth child believes shes is a vampire, however nothing that comes out of her mouth is in fact realistic. She thinks that vampires truly exist, and that she is a vampire because she has diabetes. I really liked that there were many boys that she liked that appeared throughout the book, however she ends up with the one innocent boy, that she has been best friends with since she was a young child, before she was crazy. I appreciate the characters that befriend her although she is ridiculously weird. Once i started the book i couldn't put it down. I was excited to read during advisory and i actually did want to read for once. I would recommend this book to anyone who is ready for an adventurous story that is compelling and fun to read. It is certainly not hard to read, and it is a fun book to just pick up one random day. The person who will read the book must be willing to use their imagination and believe what the author says, otherwise it will be boring and very unrealistic.”
