“What is there to say about this book? Well it really takes alot for a book to catch my attention, and if you know me, reading isn't exactly my forte. This book was literally a book that i picked up and didn't put down untill i finished it that night. It has outstanding character developement throughtout the story, for the main character and it's supporting characters. If you enjoy a hardy fiction then this is definitely a book for you, It's set about a hundred years from now, where almost the whole world has become a utopia to some familiar corporations. i would add more, but i don't want to give any of this amazing book away. It is thrilling, funny and emotional, you really see what it's like to live in this boys situation, definitely a must read in my opinion! ”

Bo Marsten is a 16 year old kid who's family has a bad reputation of being "criminals" but in other words the USA become USSA and over protects their people. They take pills to control their temper, but Bo's temper is hard to control and gets mad once Karlohs Mink crosses the line by talking to Maddy (Bo's Boyfriend) and bo's fude causes himto 3 years of factory jail. ”

Bo lives in the U.S.S.A, the United Safer States of America. The government does anything to make sure that everyone in the country is safe, and ban things such as unhealthy foods and alcohol. Bo's family has a history of temper problems. He eventually gets in trouble for it and then gets sent up to a prison for kids run by McDonald's. He illegaly plays football for the prison, and gets stronger and faster. With the skills he learns, he escapes. He makes it out alive after being chased by a bear. He gets home then realizes he wants to live in another country to go play football. He ends the story by running around in his grandfather's track shoes, since his grandfather used to live in the normal USA. I liked this book mainly because I like sports, so I found it very intriguing.”

Not only are we able to get inside of the head of the main character, Bo Martson, but we are able to see his veiws on the world. The plot and the characters are beautifully well written, and the writing style of Pete Hautman was what really got me reading. Not only was it humorous, but is wa filled with drama and action.
I plan to read more of his stories in the near future.”

After losing his temper too many times in a future world regulated for complete citizen safety, Bo is sent to work in a prison pizza factory (a McDonalds merger!) in the northern tundra. Many of his fellow inmates are in for similar misdemeanors, and Rhino is in for unsafe, self-destructive eating habits. The USA is now the USSA (the extra S for “safer”) and runs on the manpower provided by the large percentage of citizens imprisoned in work camps for misdemeanors. Any aggression, any strenuous contact sport, any reckless behavior is enough to go on record. USSA laws and municipal regulations are fear-of-litigation driven. Medication, Levelor, suppresses any emotional outbursts.
Bo (who doesn’t take his Levelor, a misdemeanor in itself) is jealous about his girlfriend’s interaction with an arch track (running) rival. He loses his temper once too often after being blamed for a rash outbreak that is in fact a reaction to a skin cream. He ends up on a prison football squad coached by an ex-pro footballer, playing illegal contact sports against other prison teams (Coke!)
When Bo’s computer A.I. creation, Bork, manages to arrange an early release, Bo is thrown out of the prison to fight his way to the nearest arctic town while avoiding polar bear attacks.
Back home again, Bo must face hard realities: he doesn’t like his father, he has outgrown the soft high school life, and he knows he doesn’t want to live either like his maverick grandfather (a beer swilling relic of the late 20th century) or in obeisance to the minutiae of safety regulations. A move to another continent is inevitable.
Some appeal, but this story doesn’t have the power or the strong social message of Feed. It does point out the power of teamwork and determination.
