I know these people! As a native of So Cal I know every character in this book. I swear this book too real & surreal, it was a great ride.

I got through it rather quickly. Poor Maddie has a way of getting herself into one jam or anthor. I'm actually quite anxious to buy the next book.
Just for fun

This book is for pure mindless fun. I started picking at some things, like this character seemed to be more like 21 years old vs. nearly 30. She did some things that were oh-so stupid, like put off a pregnancy test, and of course the usual "meddling" into the case which ultimately gets it solved. Well, that's to be expected from a cozy - how else does the average Jane who has a "real life" job get to solve a mystery? So, I can forgive some of the meddling. And, well, I didn't like Dana, the sidekick, she was just too slutty. And the mom was too over-the-top which may have been ok if you got to know her better, but I just saw her as a freakin weirdo.
And my last gripe...I'm not a religious zealot, but it really bugged me that Ms. Halliday did not capitalize "God" because she was not using it in general terms as "I was praying to the gods." For a character that was supposedly Catholic, this irked me.
I know I seem to be tearing this book apart, but all that aside, I did actually like it. I think Ms. Halliday has a real talent for writing. She is hilarious, and keeps your attention so that you want to read more. And that is hard even for the biggest best seller to do. I will read her next book when I need a lighthearted break from reality.
Funny and easy to read but...

This book was very funny and easy to read. I finished it in two days, when usually it takes me weeks to read a book. The author has a way with words and really knows how to write an engaging story. The only flaw, which kind of turned me off, was this entire story seemed like it was copied from Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series. I thought maybe just the beginning was similar and brushed it off, but it had resemblances from beginning to end where I began to wonder how original the story was. I wasn't so happy about that, but the author is funny and can write, so I give her that. I think if she comes up with her own story, with no ties whatsoever to JE's books, it will be a blast. I will buy her next book just because reading this one was fun and I laughed quite a bit. I just hope the next one isn't another JE knockoff.

Maddie Springer's crazy situations had me laughing. Gemma has a talent for bringing out the zaniest parts of people in Maddie's friends. Very entertaining. Can't wait for Maddie's next adventure.
